From the magic of time and the beauty of nature
From its high plateau on the Reschen Pass, Nauders can look back on an long and turbulent history,
Old trade routes, such as the famous Roman road the “Via Claudia Augusta” lead past the picturesque town, making it a welcoming and open place Today, the magic of this history blends in a very special way with the rhythm of the seasons with their customs and ceremonies giving a really particular holiday feeling.

THE LOCATION
Nauders lies nestled in a picturesque location in a high valley above the Inn valley between the Finstermünz Pass to the north and the Reschen Pass to the south At the “Three Country Border Stone” (2,180m) in the south west of the district, the borders of Austria, Switzerland and Italy all meet. Lake Reschen is the main landmark of the whole region, with now-famous its submerged tower. It is only a few kilometres to both the Italian and the Swiss border. The very special location in the Tri Country Region makes the town the ideal starting point for exploring and excursions in three countries.
THE PLACE
Excavations indicate early bronze age settlements. As early as the 2nd century, the town was marked on the Via Claudia Augusta on a map found in Alexandria. Nauders itself was mentioned in the records for the first time in 1150 as “Nudres” The heart of the town shows a strongly romantic influence Naudersberg Castle dominates the surrounding area, and was also the seat of the court for many years. Immediately beside the castle you will find St Leonhard’s Chapel, the oldest preserved church in the Tirol. Without losing the magic of its history, over recent years Nauders has developed into a modern, forward-looking tourist town.
COUNTRYSIDE AND CLIMATE
Due to the southern influence, the climate in Nauders is considerably milder than that of its northern neighbours. A sure sign of this is that potatoes, rye, barley, oats and wheat thrive and mature there, despite the elevation (1.400m). Winter sports enthusiasts also benefit from the very special geographic location. Extremely good snow reliability is guaranteed by snow from the north and from the south, combined with the elevation, as well as state-of-the-art snow making equipment The heavily terraced landscape bears witness to intensive agricultural use in farming The unique agricultural beauty can be seen in the natural attractions in the area
